Something was going on.
I felt irritated.
I felt frustrated.
and I knew that I have to do something about it. I happen to call a friend of mine and got the advice to leave social media for some time.
and so, I did.
.
.
In this blog, I want to write about what I have learned from quitting social media.

For those who prefer to see the video rather than reading it, follow this link.

1) why I decided to quit social media?

Well, it was the last year of college and every student wishes to make a lot of memories before leaving. So we all were exploring the nearby places and new restaurants. Some were going on trips to places like Goa and Pondicherry.

There is a very vibrant environment, some post statuses, some keep posting pictures.
some post about waking up early and going for a morning walk, or a morning tea. others post about having a nice dinner.

This is very common nowadays and there is nothing wrong with that. Even, I have also shared many statuses.

But the problem arises when I am sitting in my hostel room, or talking to my friend, or thinking about any new idea, and then someone posts a status exploring something new today.
This made me think if I am really enjoying whatever I was doing. Should I start hanging out with those people and enjoy it? Should I go out every day to find out & explore different places? This kept running in my mind, and almost slowly I could sense it to be like status war.

It was like someone went to this place, and posted about it. The next day someone else goes to another place and posts.

When I came home and got some time, I sat and checked what's going on Instagram and Facebook. and I wasn't surprised knowing that every student is stuck on the same thing, everyone is occupied with status and post. This made me frustrated. So out of frustration, I decided to uninstall all these apps.

I deleted Instagram and Facebook. I didn't have any target in starting. I just decided to not come back until I stop comparing myself with others. It proved to be a very good decision.

2) The process of Quitting

So the first 2 weeks were very difficult. Assume, you like to play games and your parents tell you not to play from today. You will feel very bad right? so the same goes for social media. It is also a kind of addiction.

If you use social media every day and somebody asks you to stop using it, you feel bad. I became so lethargic. I kept sleeping without doing any work and had no goals.

This was evident in the first 2 weeks, but as time passed, my brain got adjusted and I understood that there is a beautiful life out of social media. And it has a lot of positive benefits.

So, this is the main idea behind the blog, I will share all the positive benefits with you.

3) Positive Benefits

โ€ข Extra Time

The first thing is I got Extra time.

Almost 1-2 hours every day are spent on Instagram and Facebook. and after that, my brain gets so tired that I don't feel like doing anything for the upcoming 1-2 hours. So quitting gave me some extra time, where my brain is very active and I can do any new work.

โ€ข You stop comparing

When you do social media detox, you get a lot of time to think about what you like. You can focus on yourself, do what you like, achieve new heights.

But if you compare yourself with someone else, you start to become like them. If they are traveling, then you also want to travel and feel bad for yourself. Or if they are doing a lot of work, you'll also do that.
But, this is wrong. Maybe you like sitting in a room and doing coding rather than traveling? So what's the problem? Why are you comparing the two? Quitting social media makes you stop comparing and realize what you actually like.

โ€ข You Stop Judging

So everyone has gone through this situation. Assume that you're new on Instagram and you post your 1st picture and get 50 likes, and on the 2nd post you get 100 likes. But on 3rd post, you didn't get that many likes. Even without realizing, it starts to affect you unconsciously. You will think about "What is the problem in this post?"

I have seen a lot of friends thinking that in this picture, I am showing the left side face and in the other front face. I got more likes in side face, so maybe my side face looks better. So basically what you're doing? You're judging yourself! Are the people around not enough?

All the people around you judge all the time! so why are you also doing the same?

โ€ข You feel Satisfied

So when you're not comparing yourself with others, you start to know what you like. And when you do what you like, you don't care about others. This basically means that you're getting satisfied, whatever you're doing is not decided by others.

4) Going forward (Further Approach)

I know that some of my friends will ask that I recently posted a post on Insta 6-7days back. So am I going to start using it again?

So let me tell you my approach. Now when I am posting something, that will be because either it is adding value to someone's life or maybe that I just wanted to do. I haven't posted my picture for long so I feel like I want to post. So now I am posting because I want, Not for likes. When you will reach this level, these numbers won't matter. You will post what you want, not out of compulsion that you want more likes.

Less screen time

And then, I have less screen time. when you try a detox, you find that there are lot of things that you like rather than scrolling through social media. Then definitely you don't want to be so active over social media. You won't feel addicted to it. and if you do get addicted then you can try detox again.

5) A Small Advice

To all the people reading this blog, If you feel that you are addicted, then you can also try social media detox. When you know something is not good for you or it is harming you, you will try to come out of it someday or the other. So why not now?

At least try it for once. Try quitting social media for 20-3 0days. You will also start getting the results.

so that's all for this blog. See you in the next one.

See Ya!
